Job Description

The Program Director for the Northeast Communications Program at U.S. Energy Foundation is responsible for overseeing a communications-focused grantee portfolio, collaborating with regional teams and partners to advance clean energy policy through strategic communications, capacity-building, and relationship management.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Northeast Regional team and grantees on grantmaking strategy and activities.
  • Manage and coordinate multiple budgets from internal and external sources.
  • Oversee a portfolio of grantees and all activities within the grantee lifecycle.
  • Provide strategic guidance and resources for developing and executing communications strategies.
  • Develop and execute capacity-building programming for EF grantees and consultants.
  • Facilitate periodic check-ins and meetings for timely completion of communications activities.
  • Foster active network learning and disseminate relevant data and trends.
  • Partner with aligned communicators in the region.
  • Track communications threats and opportunities in the energy and climate landscape.
  • Inform and apply EF National, DEI, and other program strategies to regional work.
  • Provide timely information for rapid-response requests and funder reports.
  • Maintain regular communications and message guidance to EF grantees and partners.
  • Engage with key funding partners as needed.
  • Operate in accordance with EF's brand guidance and risk management procedures.
  • Identify and seek professional development opportunities.

Requirements

  • Practical experience in developing and executing strategic communications campaigns, including traditional and digital media projects, with a preference for experience in political, issue advocacy, and or energy policy communications.
  • Experience developing and facilitating strategy collaboratively across a network of internal and external stakeholders and partnering with others to deliver high-impact outcomes in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience in managing budgets and experience creating proposals and strategy documents.
  • Strong communication skills, able to present complex information in a meaningful way to EF leadership, funding partners, and allies.
  • A demonstrated ability to manage work across multiple stakeholders in a complex, multi-site, multicultural organization.
  • Ability to travel four to six times a year in the contiguous U.S. for three to four business days at a time.
  • A solid understanding of and commitment to the principles and foundation of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI).
  • Ability to prioritize competing requests while adjusting to rapidly changing media environments.
  • Commitment to excellent time management and flexibility.
